The biggest addition to the miniseries is an extended epilogue written by King himself. Especially impacted by this are Stu Redman and Frannie Goldsmith's burgeoning romance and Nadine Cross' descent into villainy as she falls under Flagg's sway. While the change in narrative approach allows this particular adaptation to hone in on the battle between Boulder and Vegas, it also streamlines certain important character arcs undertaken by the survivors en route to Boulder. ![]() To differentiate itself from the previous 1994 ABC miniseries adaptation of The Stand, which similarly progressed linearly, the CBS All Access interpretation of the story has the glimpses of the contagion's outbreak shown largely in flashbacks after the first episode. The survivors fall into two camps: The good-hearted rallying the Boulder Free Zone with Mother Abagail in Colorado and the more sinister taking up with the evil Randall Flagg in Las Vegas. ![]() For the most part, the novel is told in a linear fashion, with a deadly contagion dubbed Captain Trips unleashed on the world and eradicating the majority of humanity in a matter of days. ![]()
